Medical referral from Physician, RN’s Case Managers and Dietitians are significantly involved in most cases in the referral process. Due to the confusion of insurance coverage specific to nutrition support it is also not unusual for a patient to self refer to explore the benefits they have available through their insurance provider. The reimbursement staff will contact other involved health care providers. Additionally, patients may self-refer if they are able to provide contact information to current health care providers.
